This is no ordinary journey. A traveler’s first trek to see the king is always one of trials. Blake and Gabriel travel with her at the beginning, but one must face the darkest stages alone. Inevitably, Jada stands by herself at the door of the real test: the crossing of the Great Sands. All things die there. Hope, body, and memories of goodness and past days all perish.

Death and complete brokenness await in the wasteland. On the other side, however, are wonders and power too great to fathom—if one can miraculously find a way through the desert.

Meanwhile, Cassius and Levian gather their strength for an attack against the high king and his city. As they do, strange signs and wonders appear throughout the realm. These cause many to wonder if the end of Aurora is approaching. The realm never recovered when Cassius unleashed his evil from the Dead Land, and evidence of the world’s decay continues spreading to its farthest reaches.

As the high king prepares for the inevitable, he, too, wonders if this is truly the end. Aurora is dying, but will the last battle usher in a new era or eternity?
